Quarter by Quarter

1^st Qtr 2-3, 2^nd Qtr 6-1, 3^rd Qtr 4-3, 4^th Qtr 4-3

Goals: Ryan Gaspari 4.0, Kristian DenOtter 4.1, Scott Petersen 4.0, Troy Lindner 3.0, Scott Gill 1.4

Game Summary:

For the second week running we got off to a slow start leaving plenty of room for concern. Sturt were able to take early control through some strong face off work from their import A.Brown who was complemented by strong finishing from Ryan Stone who picked up 2 early goals. Fortunately, their domination was short lived as out face off guys, Mat brown and Scott Petersen got back on top and gave us time with the ball to find Kristian DenOtter and Troy Lindner open in good positions to take us to a 2goals to 3 first quarter.

The second quarter brought a nice change of pace as the guys really started to hit their stride scoring at will in transition, settled play and man up. Ryan Gaspari, our North Adelaide recruit, really stood up and led the offense with a two goal quarter and was ably supported by fellow attackers Kristian DenOtter and Troy Lindner as we ran away with a 6 goals to 1 quarter and a 8-4 half time lead.

After the half the lads continued to push ahead and worked harder to implement our game plan and as a result we played some free flowing, deliberate disciplined lacrosse that was great to watch. Tom Vickery (Current Australian squad member) was outstanding in the cage keeping Sturt to only 4 goals in 3 quarter in an effort which included a diving save to stop a crease shot from Ryan Stone on his back hand side. Brett Langstreth and Nick Brown were also very good in defence reading the play nicely and snatching loose pases from the Sturt offence.

Our last quarter brought a bit of a drop off in discipline as the game looked to be put away with a 12-5 lead. But Sturt fought back with some late goals that we quickly counter acted to take out the quarter 4-3 and pick up our 2^nd win from 2 games this year.

Redwings MSL open season with a thrilling 12-11 overtime win over West Torrens

With a fairly interrupted preseason for many of the guys the first game was always going to be a tough proposition especially against an opponent like West Torrens who always provide a close game.

Fortunately, during the off season we were able to get a hodl of a couple of good recruits from North Adelaide that did not disappoint us. Ryan Gaspari and Blake Alford made an immediate impact on the season and fit well with the group of guys that we have now had together for many years.

As the game kicked off we conceded the first goal before picking up consequitive goals from Scott Petersen and Glenn Steele. The first quarter proved t be a gring but one which we felt in control of until giving up a late goal to tie the scores at 2-2 at quarter time.

The second quarter proved t be much the same as we pushed ahead with two straight goals from Kristian DenOtter (Man up) and Ryan Gaspari unassisted before again conceding a late goal to take a 1 goal lead into the half.

The second half brough about a West Torrens resurgence that began wth an increased determination on the ground ball and face off that we could not match. We still managed to pick up early goals through Glenn Steele and Blake Alford but these were quickly answered with three conqequitive West Torrens scores through out mistakes. Defenders Matt T Smith and Aiden Reynolds were applying excellent pressure and on track for stellar games with their outstanding groundball work and midfielders Scott Petersen was and absolute work horse, covering the field with out break.

The last quarter saw us again take a two goal lead which looked to be enough with 3 minutes to play, however a quick West Torrens goal gave them hope late. With under 3 min8utes remaining in regular play we managed to take possession through a great save from Tom Vickery. We immediately went into a stall pattern and ran the clock down well until we caught a questionable decision on a moving pick with 43 seconds remaining. West Torrens the grabbed the ball and forced transition up field scoring with only 16 second on the clock tieing the game at 10-10.

Without undefeated record in OT (TOUCHWOOD) we were quietly confident and through some excellent individual work from Ryan Gaspari and Glenn Steele we were able to pick up the win 12-11 (2-1 in OT).

I would like to inform you that junior training for the 2013 season is returning to the club as of Thursday 11th of April for all grades

u8s , u11s and u13s from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and u15s from 6:30 till around 8pm

All our coaches will be there to meet and take the first trainings for the year so dont be shy and introduce yourselves.
